How do I compare VoIP Service Providers?
More than likely you have heard of VoIP but are not quite sure what VoIP phone service is all about. That is completely normal because it is a relatively new technology however learning what VoIP is all about is important so you may start enjoying all its benefits!

First of all you should know what VoIP means. It stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. That simply means that the Internet is used to send and receive phone calls instead of traditional phone lines. This is a phone service but it uses a high-speed Internet connection to process the phone calls. There are two types of VoIP services available, one that is computer based and the other that is phone based. Computer based VoIP services allow you to make phone calls through your computer using a headset. Phone based VoIP services allow you to make phone calls using a regular phone that connects to the Internet to place the call. The biggest difference is that phone calls are sent over the Internet rather than over the traditional copper phone wires.

This may sound a bit confusing but in reality all of the confusing parts of VoIP take part over the Internet and nothing really changes for you when it comes to making phone calls. All you do to make a phone call with a phone based VoIP service is pick up your regular telephone, dial the number, and place your call. There really is no difference in how you call with phone based VoIP services although there is a big difference in your bill. You will pay a lot less for these services. Computer based VoIP services work the same as the phone-based ones except they are free in many cases or very affordable and allow you to call other computers or other telephones. You use a headset connected to your computer to make these phone calls.

There are quite a few different VoIP providers out there and the one you choose will affect what phone numbers you are able to call. In most instances you can call any phone number in any country whether it be mobile or a landline. However, many of the computer-based programs only allow you to call other users of that service. A quick review of the VoIP service provider will fill you in as to the services offered and what phone numbers you are able to call with that particular provider.
