What Broadband Phone Service Equipment do I Need?
One of the first questions people have about VoIP phone companies is about the equipment they will need. Fortunately, you do not need much equipment to get started and the equipment you do need is frequently provided by the VoIP phone company you have a service plan with. If you are using a phone based VoIP service then you will simply need a small adapter to place on your phone. Both types of VoIP services, phone and computer based, require a high-speed Internet connection. The Internet connection may be LAN, DSL, or even a cable modem. The adapter that is used for your VoIP phone service is simply plugged into the Internet connection and then it is connected to your regular phone. It is really fairly easy and does not take more than a couple of minutes to accomplish. If you are using a computer based service then you will need a computer, Internet connection, and a microphone headset. That is all the equipment you will need for the phone and computer VoIP services. It is a lot less equipment than many people anticipate!

The next most popular question regarding VoIP equipment is whether or not you are required to buy it. Depending on the company you use the equipment will be provided free just for signing up for a service plan. If you cancel the plan at any time however you will be expected to return the equipment or you will be charged. You also will have the option to purchase the equipment when you sign up for a plan in most cases if that is what you want.

Once you have the VoIP equipment you need it is really easy to get started. By this point you will already have your service plan for your phone-based service or your headset for your computer based service. The next thing to do is make a phone call. With your phone-based service all you do is pick up your phone, dial, and wait for someone to answer on the other end just like with traditional phone services. With your computer based service you simply connect the headset to the computer, open your VoIP software, use the keypad to dial the number, and then wait for someone to pick up. It is really easy and once you have done it the first time you will see that there was no reason for you to be concerned!

If this sounds really easy to you despite not being technologically savvy then you should consider signing up for a VoIP service. Whether the phone based or computer based is better for you depends on your personal situation and who and where you are calling. The great thing is that VoIP is very affordable especially if you call long distance or internationally on a regular basis. Check out the different phone service plans available as well as the VoIP providers for the computer to see which one would work best for you. You just might find that VoIP is the solution to all your phone-calling needs and it is easy on the budget as well.
